Ottawa Life Member Affinity Group presents:Â Ottawa L5, the first integrated Connected & Autonomous Vehicle (CAV) test environment in North America.
The Ottawa L5 private test track is a 1,866 acre, fenced and gated private facility with 16 kilometres of paved roads. The largest secure test facility for CAVs in Canada, the Ottawa L5 private test track creates an ideal proving ground for the safe and productive pre-commercial development, testing, validation and demonstration of CAV technologies. The Ottawa L5 testing facilities are equipped with GPS (RTK), dedicated short range communications (DSRC), Wi-Fi, 4G/LTE and 5G telecommunications and networking infrastructure, making it the first integrated CAV test environment of its kind in North America. Find more information at:Â https://www.investottawa.ca/ottawal5
Tour will last about an hour involving a walk around the site and a group discussion of various technical aspects of the L5 facility. An additional treat is the possibility of an autonomous shuttle ride at the site for some attendees.
Please register in advance with wolfram.lunscher@ieee.org by Friday October 11. Priority will be given to Life members. All members and family are welcome. There is an online liability waiver to be signed. The link will be provided to registrants.

Digital Marketing — Tools and Methodologies
Joint presentation IEEE Ottawa Section Consultants Network and IET Ottawa LN
Not your Grandmother’s Marketing – The impact of SaaS and AI
Since Google’s arrival on the scene in the late 1990’s,
marketing took a turn to digital, never to look back again. With the proliferation of technologies such
as Artificial Intelligence, and novel business models like
Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), marketing tools and techniques continue to
rapidly evolve. Our eyes glued to
screens of devices of all sizes, we are at the same time a willing victim and a
reluctant participant in the marketing dance in both our professional and
personal lives. These combined bring a
huge democratization of marketing for businesses, allowing for successful
growth in the most unlikely locations.
Speaker:Â Dobrila Rancic Moogk
Dobrila is VP Marketing at Giatec Scientific, an IoT company
revolutionizing concrete testing.
Through her work in and with start-ups on strategic marketing, Dobrila’s
passion for accelerating commercialization of innovation results in significant
growth and scale-up. This is combined
with her drive to lead her university students to stellar career starts by
passing on her cutting-edge SaaS marketing skills to the next generation of
business leaders.
 Over her 25 years’
experience in the high-tech industry spanning North America
and Europe, she held marketing and R&D leadership
positions with dynamic corporations such as Bell-Northern Research, LSI
Logic, and MOSAID, among others. Dobrila
has a BSEE, as well as Master of Engineering, and MBA degrees from University
of Ottawa.
 She is a member of
the Board of Directors of Invest Ottawa and Bayview Yards, the Community Impact
Cabinet at United Way East Ontario,
past chair of Volunteer Ottawa, and past vice-chair of the Women in Engineering
and Computer Science at University of
Ottawa.
In this time of social distancing, we are pleased to announce that all the team members of IEEE YP and WIE Ottawa Sections are fully committed to providing online interaction and support to our community! In partnership with Professional Engineers Ontario, we present an online talk in “Clarifying the Path to Becoming a Professional Engineer.”
If you are an engineering undergraduate or post-graduate student, or a recent graduate starting out your engineering career, then this seminar might be for you. In it you will learn:
- What is PEO?
- What engineering experience is PEO looking for once I graduate?
- I have international engineering education and experience; how is that evaluated by PEO?
- How is my engineering experience evaluated by PEO?
- How do I prepare my Experience Record?
- What is the PPE?
- What is the EIT Program and the Student Membership Program?
The emphasis of this webinar will be on the P. Eng. licensure process – what PEO is looking for. The webinar will focus on how engineering experience is evaluated and how you can facilitate the process. Learn the dos and don’ts of preparing your licensing application for evaluation.
To participate, you will require: internet connection to view the webinar, phone access to dial into the conference for audio.
We look forward to speaking with you!
