Abstract:  Synchrophasor systems are considered to be the corner stone of the “smarter power transmission” system.
They provide time synchronized measurements across large geographically distributed power grids. Synchrophasors
provide an effective snapshot of the state of the power system at a defined instant in time. They enable several
valuable Wide Area Monitoring, Protection, and Control (WAMPAC) functions including situational awareness and wide
area visualization functions, enhanced state estimation (enhanced SE), voltage stability monitoring, islanding
detection, fault location, remedial action schemes, congestion management, system restoration … and ultimately
minimizing the probability of blackouts.
