Abstract:
Independent Consultants, Solution providers and Internal Consultants in an organization are first and foremost in the business of “Selling”, whether they are selling their services to an external or internal customer; or they are selling an idea to their boss, financial institution or partners. The one skill that Consultants, seldom bother to learn or develop is “Selling”.
Think about situations when the prospect responds with ‘Let me think about it’ or ‘I have to speak to my boss/spouse/cat..’? How many times have you invested time and money with someone who didn’t even have the funds to pay you? Do you have any rights in the sales process? How many times have you given everything that is asked for without receiving anything in return? Maybe it is time to use a different model; to ask the key questions first, before you give any answers.
