IEEE EMBS International Student Conference (ISC) 2016 is taking place at Carleton University from May 29 – May 31. ISC 2016 is a student organized conference under the flagship of the Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, the largest biomedical engineering society which operates under the Institute of the Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the largest association of technical professionals in the world. The theme of ISC 2016 is ‘Expanding the Boundaries of the Biomedical Engineering and Healthcare’ with the goal of bringing together students, academics and industry representatives to discuss issues in the Healthcare system. The International Student Conference (ISC) is coming to region for the first time. ISCs were held in USA, China, United Kingdom, Chile, Egypt and various other countries.

ISC 2016 program has been designed to cater to young researchers and upcoming engineers needs and to showcase the cutting edge research being done in the Ottawa. The program features keynote speeches by the world renowned educator Dr. Barbara Oakley (Co-creator of the largest online course), Dr. Samir Iqbal (world renowned researcher and IEEE EMBS Distinguished Lecturer) and Mr. Dick Bourgeois-Doyle (Secretary General of the National Research Council Canada). Microsoft and Canadian Light Source will be coming to ISC 2016 to showcase their technology through workshops. Panels of experts will be discussing the Ins and Outs of Start-ups, Ins and Outs of Academia and the role of women in the STEM fields.
