Control of Power Electronic Converters in Microgrids and Smart Grids
Associate Professor Mehdi Savaghebi, Department of Engineering Technology, Technical University of Denmark (DTU), Ballerup,Denmark
Mehdi Savaghebi (S’06-M’15-SM’15) received the B.Sc. degree from the University of Tehran, Iran, in 2004 and the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from Iran University of Science and Technology, Tehran, Iran in 2006 and 2012, respectively, all in Electrical Engineering. From 2014 to 2017, he was a Postdoc Fellow at the Department of Energy, Aalborg University where he was an Associate Professor for 2017-2018. For the next four years, he served as an Associate Professor and Research Team Leader at the University of Southern Denmark, Odense, Denmark. Since June 2022, he has been an Associate Professor and Leader of Electric Energy Group at the Department of Engineering Technology, Technical University of Denmark (DTU), Ballerup, Denmark. His main research interests include renewable energy systems, microgrids, power quality and protection of electrical systems. He is a member of the Technical Committee on Renewable Energy Systems and Technical Committee on Smart Grids, IEEE Industrial Electronics Society.
Student Branch awards
Congratulations to Riki Romana and Kareem El Assad, the previous student branch chairs of uOttawa and uCarelton, on winning the IEEE Canadian Foundation award in recognition of their valuable service and contributions.
IEEE Annual Election
The 2023 IEEE Annual Election balloting will begin on 15 August and end on 2 October 2023 at 12:00 pm EDT (16:00 UTC). The ballot includes IEEE President-Elect candidates and other Officer positions up for election. Information about the candidates is available on the IEEE Annual Election website. You will receive information about the candidates for the specific position(s) you are eligible to vote for via email.
On 15 August, be sure to check your email for instructions on how to access your ballot electronically. We hope you will take the time to exercise your vote and help choose the future direction of IEEE as an organization.

We are pleased to advise you that the 79th Annual General Meeting of the IEEE Ottawa section will once again be in person.
This annual event provides an opportunity for recognizing and honouring outstanding individuals and groups within the IEEE Ottawa Section and hearing from academia and industry leaders through keynote speeches.
This event sells out every year and attracts 150+ members and leaders from academia, industry, and government. In addition to a great agenda, there will be plenty of time allotted for socializing, networking and enjoying a night of entertainment.
