Kim Roberts, Vice President of WaveLogic Science at Ciena, was named an IEEE fellow as of December 2017, recognized for his contributions to coherent optical communications.
With more than 156 patents granted and 25 patent applications pending, Kim is central to the creation of the WaveLogic series of modems, that apply CMOS digital signal processing to overcome the traditional barriers in high-speed optical communications.
Kim is a dedicated contributor to IEEE, for example partaking in more than twenty-five IEEE conferences and workshops from 2005 to 2010, presenting to, and discussing, with the optics research community heretical new possibilities in optical communications.
Kim’s current product challenges are: squeezing more spectral efficiency, lowering cost per bit, and mitigating optical nonlinearities.
IEEE SPAC18
Student Professional Awareness Conference (SPAC) is a formal dinner event that aims to bridge the gap between students and their career goals. SPAC offers students and employers a unique opportunity to network with one another in a professional environment along with professionals and academics representing the fields of Engineering and Computer Science.
SPAC will be held this year at 5:30 PM on January 25th 2018 at the Hellenic Centre.
