72nd Annual IEEE Ottawa Section AGM 2016
The 2016 IEEE Ottawa Section executives and officers cordially invites you to your IEEE Ottawa Section Annual General Meeting and Banquet to engage in your Section’s business, with a brilliant speaker, and other members and guests over a sit-down dinner.
Our theme this year is "The Outlook for Research and Innovation in Canada" with an excellent keynote speaker Dr. Roseann Runte, President and Vice-Chancellor, Carleton University.
Business covered at the meeting will include the executive report, election of new officers, and awards presentation. Our AGM Gala and Banquet dinner will follow and will include aerial entertainment.
A three course dinner will be served.

This is an official announcement that the IEEE Ottawa Section AGM will be held on Friday, October 14, 2016, in Ottawa, and that the call for nominations is open to the IEEE Ottawa Section membership.

Kanata Tech Hub IEEE Lunch and Learn
Starting this fall, in partnership with March Networks, the IEEE Ottawa Section is launching a Lunch and Learn initiative bringing technical talks directly to the Kanata Tech Hub.
This initiative has come out of an effort to better cater to Ottawa’s Tech Sector, making technical talks more accessible to its private sector members.
Speakers shall originate from academia, government, industry, and even include distinguished lecturers.
In addition IEEE representatives shall be on site to answer any questions existing members may have and to sign up new members on the spot!

Have you heard of SPAC? Have you heard of EPEC? *horizons@EPEC* is a special SPAC-like event that's being held *October 14* in conjunction with the IEEE Electrical Power and Energy Conference 2016 (https://www.epec2016.ieee.ca/) in Ottawa.
Everyone is invited to join us at the Shaw Centre (https://www.epec2016.ieee.ca/venue/) for an afternoon speaker series and networking event, with the theme of **Innovation, Diversity, Sustainability, and Career Preparation**.
We will be starting with some opening remarks, then a lively panel discussion followed by a wine and cheese networking event. For students and new grads, don't forget to bring your résumés because that might just help you land your next job!
Our speaker panel will include *Karen Bartleson*, IEEE President-Elect 2016 (a.k.a. IEEE President 2017), *Chris Janzen*, Dean of Faculty of Technology and Trades of Algonquin College, *Simon Herriotts*, Senior Technical Leader at Cisco, and a few more great speakers.
This event is organized by IEEE volunteers in Ottawa for members of the Student Branches, Young Professionals, Women in Engineering, Humanitarian Initiatives, and IEEE Ottawa Section as a whole. Although this is our target audience, *everyone is invited, so ask a friend to register with you!*

IHTC workshop on Community Driven Rural Electrification, co-located event at EPEC2016
This half-day workshop seeks to:
- Showcase the rural electrification programs from IEEE’s Smart Village and Light-Up (The World) Costa Rica.
- Facilitate multifaceted interaction between participants and speakers representing rural and engineering communities
- Answer the following questions: What perspectives does the Solar Industry have on rural electrification in developing communities?
- How can tech-savvy volunteers be inspired, enabled and connected with development projects in Latin America?
- What are the social dynamics, governance models and global transformations in rural settings for technology-based development projects?
- Discuss avenues available to achieve sustainable development of rural electrification through interactive round table discussions (World Café format1)

Call for Papers: IJCNN 2017

The 2017 International Joint Conference on Neural Networks (IJCNN 2017) will be held in Anchorage, Alaska, USA, May 14–19, 2017.
The conference is organized jointly by the International Neural Network Society and the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society, and is the premiere international meeting for researchers and other professionals in neural networks and related areas. It will feature invited plenary talks by world-renowned speakers in the areas of neural network theory and applications, computational neuroscience, robotics, and distributed intelligence.
