DL Technical Talk: Agent-based Collaborative Technologies and Systems
WHEN:
Wednesday, 8 June 2016 from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM (EDT)
WHERE:
Algonquin College, Building P, Room P211A - 1385 Woodroffe Ave, Ottawa, ON
Abstract:
Agent technology represents a new paradigm for developing industrial software applications. During the past two decades, a significant number of researchers and practitioners have been trying to apply intelligent software agents in the areas of engineering design, intelligent manufacturing, supply chain management, and virtual enterprises. Under the context of these areas, an agent can be defined as a software system that communicates and cooperates with other software systems to solve a complex problem that is beyond the capability of each individual software system. Seminar on Diamond for Quantum Information Processing and Raman Micrcroscopy
Speaker: PROF STEVEN PRAWER, University of Melbourne, Australia
Date: Wednesday, June 8, 2016
Time: 6:30pm
Location: Ottawa U / Algonquin College (TBD)
Contact: kexing.liu@ieee.org
Biography:
Professor Prawer is the director of the Melbourne Materials Institute, a multidisciplinary research initiative dedicated to using advanced materials science and technology to address problems of global significance. (http://materials.unimelb.edu.au). He has a world wide reputation in advanced diamond science and technology with over 25 years of experience and over 250 scientific publications. Professor Prawer is currently a senior leader one of Australia’s most prestigious national projects dedicated to the development of a bionic eye. He leads the team to develop the high density electrode array plus encapsulation strategy capable of delivering a high acuity device which will enable profoundly blind people to once again be able to recognize the faces of loved ones and read large print. In 2000 he spearheaded The University of Melbourne’s entry into the world of quantum computing and nanotechnology becoming the inaugural Director of the Melbourne node of the Special Research Centre for Quantum Computer Technology He has developed the technology for the fabrication for practical, diamond based quantum devices, such as single photon sources for secure communications, and room temperature read-out for spintronics for use in advanced quantum sensing. In 2005 he cofounded Quantum Communications Victoria (http://qcvictoria.com/), which produced the first prototype commercial single photon source, for use in quantum key distribution for ultra-secure communications.
Professor Prawer has been the recipient of numerous awards including the Lady Davis Visiting Professorship, The David Syme Research Prize, a Fulbright Senior visiting fellowship, visiting fellowship at Woolfson College Inin Oxford, and the Royal Society of Victoria Research medal. In 2010 he was elected to the Australian Academy of Science in recognition of his seminal contributions to diamond science and technology.
He lives in Melbourne with his wife and seven children and in his spare time enjoys cycling, caravanning and camping in the Australian countryside.

EMC 2016 - IEEE International Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility is now recruiting volunteers
The conference will run Monday-Friday July 25-29 this summer at the Ottawa Shaw Convention Centre. Some registration volunteers will be needed Sunday afternoon July 24, and a volunteer facilities tour is also planned for that day.
EMC 2016 needs volunteers in a variety of roles, during that six day period. We greatly appreciate anyone who cares to put their name forward. IEEE conferences are always a great opportunity for networking and camaraderie.
You can find the conference web site at:http://www.emc2016.emcss.org
This year, for the first time, the IEEE Ottawa Section is trying a new, automated volunteer recruitment and management software tool. Our hope is that this will make the entire process of volunteer sign-up and communications more efficient and transparent for all involved.
The tool is called In it Live (or InitLive), a Kanata Wesley-Clover startup, created for volunteer management. It consists of a web site and a smartphone app. The site is used for signup and shift selection. The app will be used during the conference for attendance and communications.
First thing you need to do is go to the InitLive conference link:
https://app.initlive.com/JE/i8q93mmhqawx7y
You will be asked to sign up for
EMC 2016 - IEEE International Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility
Please create an account. Thereafter, when you first log in you will be taken to an event list showing EMC 2016 as a selectable item.
The email address you enter will become your id. Also, the phone number you enter will become your main contact number for InitLive communications including SMS.
Once the account is created, it will become a part of your profile. I encourage you to further refine you profile with additional contact information and a photo so we can recognize you.
At this point you will be presented with an event list containing the EMC 2016 conference. Click on this link and it will present you with the conference volunteer home page. Your selection options as a volunteer are limited to a simple 3-step process.
Currently we are only collecting the names and contact information of interested volunteers. Step 3, shifts, isn't available yet. Once the program is stable, a call will go out to all those in the system to sign up for specific shifts.
A conference brochure and the volunteer handbook are available for download on the InitLive conference website.
If you have any questions please contact:
