You have a good idea for a new
service/product, or wish to innovate or expand business. Come and hear what
support is available to get this innovation to market and/or expand.
Topics: Three speakers will cover: The
NRC's IRAP programme, the Ontario's MEDTT services and the CTN consultant's
support network.
. IRAP
- The Industrial Research Assistance Programme: IRAP has been part of the
National Research Council for the last 50 years. IRAP's aim is to stimulate
wealth-creation for Canadian small and medium-sized industries through
encouraging technological innovation. This talk will give an overview of the
IRAP programme, how it works and what it may be able to do for SMEs.
The speaker: Vernon
Sulway has been
part of IRAP for 15 years. Before coming to Canada in the late 60s he received
a B. Sc. in electronic engineering and a Ph. D. in Materials Science from the
University College of N. Wales in Bangor, UK. In Canada he worked for the
Canadian space programme in component reliability, helped to set up a company
to build scanning electron microscopes and then joined IRAP, working in
management information systems and as an industrial technology adviser.

getting started, interested in operating a business, or run an established
mid-sized company, the Ministry of Economic Development Trade can assist you
with a variety of business support services.
The speaker: Steve
Haddon, possess
the ideal set of tools to work with in helping Ontario Innovative Firms
achieve their goals. He has been with Ministry of Economic Development and
Trade, Business for over 13 years. Prior to this he was a Development
Consultant assisting SMEs grow their business. Currently affiliated with OCRI
and The Ottawa Photonics Cluster working with local companies in the greater
Ottawa area. Steve is a graduate from Bishop's University BBA program.
CTN - Canadian Technology Network An
overview of the Canadian Technology Network (CTN) and how it is helping
innovative small and medium size enterprises (SMEs) to overcome barriers to
growth. How CTN has benefited early stage companies and entrepreneurs in
Ottawa and Ontario East.
The speaker, John
Gelder holds a
B.A. (Honours) in Economics and Political Science from the University of
Toronto and an M.B.A. from the University of Ottawa. John is also a Certified
Management Consultant (CMC) and an Advisor for the National Research Council's
(NRC) Canadian Technology Network (CTN). In 1997, John was presented with the
CAMC's President Award for his contribution to the profession of management
consulting in Canada.
