Recent and Past News:
The following are the latest and past news items from the IEEE Ottawa Section:
- The IEEE Ottawa AP/MTT Joint Chapter held an election on September 16, 2011,
for the chapter vice-chair position. We now have a new
Chapter Vice-Chair, who is Dr. Qingsheng Zeng.
Congratulations, Dr. Qingsheng! We have no doubt that our chapters is in good hands. AP/MTT and the
IEEE Ottawa Section are extremely glad to have him join the team.
On a further note, we would like to thank our former vice-chair, Dr. Ali Kabiri for all his immense efforts in the past year. He was a great vice-chair and has left some big shoes to fill.

- On May 31st 2011 MTT-S Education Committee has selected UOttawa Ph.D. student, Wangzhe Li, to receive an MTT-S Graduate Fellowship for 2011. The award consists of a check for $6,000 and a certificate of recognition from
the society and will be presented at a special Student Awards Luncheon held during the IMS2011 (June 6-9). Wangzhe is an MTT member and working on Microwave Photonics. His adviser is Prof. Jianping Yao. You may remember, Jianping's another student, Chao Wang, was selected to
receive the same fellowship last year. Chao is now an NSERC post-doctoral fellow in UCLA and he gave us a presentation early this year. Let's congratulate on both Wangzhe and Jianping for their achievement.

for the chapter vice-chair position. We now have a new
Chapter Vice-Chair, who is Dr. Ali Kabiri.

IEEE Ottawa Section are extremely glad to have him join the team.
On a further note, we would like to thank our former vice-chair, Kin Sze for all his efforts in the past several years. He was a great vice-chair and has left some big shoes to fill.

The Electromagnetic Compatibility Symposium is the EMC Society's flagship event that is held annually in North America.

- The IEEE Ottawa AP/MTT Joint Chapter held an election on January 14, 2011,
for the chapter secretary position. We now have a new
Chapter Secretary, who is Thamelenee Davarajah.
Congratulations, Thamelenee! We have no doubt that she will contribute much to our AP/MTT Chapter, and to the
IEEE Ottawa Section in general.

- The
2010 14th International Symposium on Antenna Technology and Applied Electromagnetics (ANTEM)
and the American Electromagnetics Conference (AMEREM) was held jointly, July 5 ñ 9, 2010, in Ottawa.
Our AP/MTT Joint Chapter proudly sponsored one of two ANTEM 2010
Student Best Paper Awards.

- Congratulations to IEEE Ottawa MTT member Mr. Cao Wang on being selected to
receive an MTT-S Graduate Fellowship for 2010. The award consists of a
check for $6,000 and a certificate of recognition from the society and
will be presented at a special Student's Luncheon held during the IMS
(May 24-28, 2010). Mr. Cao Wang is currently a Ph.D. Candidate and a Vanier Canada
Graduate Scholar at the Microwave Photonics Research Laboratory, School of
Information Technology and Engineering, University of Ottawa. [Updated Apr. 26, 2010]
- Our AP/MTT Joint Chapter was presented an
Outstanding Chapter Award
at the IEEE Ottawa Section Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2009

Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2007.
The MTT ADCOM recently allocated some funds to translate some IEEE Microwave Magazine articles into other languages.
The goal of the project is to provide inspiration to students and engineers to learn more about microwaves, and to increase MTT-S visibility with practicing engineers.
Currently, some translated articles from the Microwave Magazine are available in Spanish and Chinese.
